Green Day 2025: Change And Adapt
Cricklade Manor Prep proudly embraced British Science Week’s theme of ‘Change and Adapt’ with an exciting Green Day packed full of hands-on learning and exploration. Led by our dedicated science lead, Mrs Jones, the day offered a rich variety of activities designed to engage pupils from Reception through to Year 6 in the wonders of science and the natural world.
The day kicked off with an unforgettable session from our friends at Zoo Lab UK, where pupils had the thrilling opportunity to handle and learn about a range of fascinating creepy crawlies. This interactive experience helped spark curiosity and allowed the children to get up close to some of nature’s most intriguing creatures, fostering a sense of respect and wonder for the animal kingdom.

Throughout the day, pupils explored important environmental topics, including the impact of climate change on polar bears. Through thoughtful discussions and visual presentations, they gained insight into how these iconic animals are adapting—or struggling to adapt—to the rapidly changing Arctic environment. This powerful session encouraged pupils to think critically about their role in protecting our planet.

Creativity was also a big part of the day. Children designed their own lab coats, decorated with symbols of change, nature, and scientific exploration. This fun activity encouraged students to think like real scientists and express their understanding of adaptation through art and imagination.

One of the most memorable parts of the day took place outdoors at Forest School, where pupils engaged in pond dipping. Equipped with nets and containers, they carefully explored the pond’s ecosystem, discovering the diverse range of creatures that call it home. This hands-on investigation brought classroom science to life, offering a tangible connection to the environment and emphasising the importance of biodiversity.

Mrs Jones reflected on the day’s success:
“It was wonderful to see the children so engaged and excited about science!”
Green Day was a fantastic celebration of Science, nature, and innovation, perfectly capturing the spirit of British Science Week. It demonstrated that learning about the world around us can be an inspiring adventure, and that change and adaptation are not just themes for Science but important lessons for life.
