Digging into the Past: Year 4 Egyptian Discovery

Year 4 had an amazing time on their recent trip to the Bristol Museum, where they explored the fascinating Ancient Egypt exhibition. The visit tied in perfectly with their current topic, Tomb Raiders, and gave the children a brilliant chance to bring their classroom learning to life.
From real mummies and ancient coffins to beautiful jewellery and carved statues, the exhibition was packed with incredible artefacts. Seeing these original objects up close really helped the children understand what life was like in Ancient Egypt. It’s one thing to read about it in a book—but quite another to see the real thing in front of you!

Trips like this are such a valuable part of learning. Getting out of the classroom and into a museum helps children engage with their topics in new and exciting ways. Whether they were sketching artefacts, spotting hieroglyphs, or asking questions about what they saw, the pupils were fully involved and absolutely buzzing with curiosity.
It wasn’t just about history either—there were links to art, literacy, and even science. The trip gave them loads to talk and write about back at school, and really sparked their imaginations.

At Cricklade Manor Prep, we love giving children opportunities to learn beyond the classroom. These kinds of hands-on experiences help build confidence, teamwork, and a love of learning that lasts far beyond the topic.
