Building the Future: Why Lego League is a game changer for Learning

At Cricklade Manor Prep, we believe learning should be exciting, hands-on, and full of opportunity. That’s why our LEGO Robotics lessons are so popular with our pupils!

Why LEGO Robotics? Our LEGO Robotics curriculum isn’t just about building cool machines—it’s about unlocking the potential of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) subjects in a way that’s interactive and inspiring. By designing, coding, and problem-solving, students develop essential skills that go far beyond the classroom. From analytical thinking to engineering design, LEGO Robotics lays a foundation for future innovators.

“The experience was brilliant! Everyone was supportive of one another”

Year 6 pupil – LEGO League 2025

LEGO League: Learning That Lasts a Lifetime For the second time, Cricklade Manor Prep proudly participated in the UK-wide LEGO League. This year, our Year 5 and 6 pupils had the exciting opportunity to compete at Oxford Brookes University, where the event took place. Our pupils worked in small teams, each taking on different roles:

  • Coder
  • Creative Designer
  • Researcher
  • Team Captain
  • Script Writer
  • Deputy Captain
  • Project Manager
  • Communicator
  • Builder
  • Mission Strategist

This team-based approach teaches crucial soft skills such as leadership, communication, and collaboration—essential for success in the modern world. By taking ownership of their tasks, our pupils learned resilience, problem-solving, and the ability to think creatively under pressure. These are skills they will carry with them for life.

“I enjoyed the Innovation project because it felt exciting to present something we have been working on for ages.”

Double Victory: Cricklade Manor Prep’s Winning Teams! Our talented young engineers delivered brilliant results, competing against 31 other schools and securing not one, but two top 10 positions! We are thrilled to announce that two of our teams achieved remarkable success:

  • Submerged InvestiGators – Winners of the Robot Performance Award
  • Creative Marine Pufferfish – Winners of the Judges’ Award for Motivation

These achievements highlight not only our pupils’ technical brilliance but also their enthusiasm, teamwork, and determination. Whether it was coding their robot to complete missions with precision or presenting their innovative marine-inspired project, our students showcased creativity, dedication, and perseverance.

“We had fun and were cheering others along.
We worked great as a team”
