DIRECTOR OF PASTORAL CARE: Mr Barton

1) What do you love about your role, being Director of Pastoral Care?

I truly cherish the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with my pupils outside of the classroom. These connections allow me to understand their individual needs and strengths, which ultimately helps them thrive academically and emotionally. I hope my presence creates a safe space where they feel valued and understood, enabling them to flourish not just as students but as individuals.

2) Why do you think it is important for children to learn about pastoral care in school?

It’s vital for children to see the school as a

nurturing environment that extends beyond academics. Learning about pastoral care helps them recognise that emotional and social well-being is just as important as their studies. This understanding fosters resilience, empathy, and the ability to seek help when needed, equipping them with essential life skills.

3) What benefits do you think children gain from studying issues regarding pastoral care?

Engaging with pastoral care issues encourages children to develop emotional intelligence, helping them navigate their feelings and those of others. It promotes open dialogue about mental health, builds a sense of community, and empowers them to be advocates for themselves and their peers. Ultimately, these discussions help create a culture of kindness and understanding within the school.

4) What do you enjoy most about being a teacher at Cricklade Manor Prep?

What I enjoy most is the sense of community and the strong connections I form with both students and staff. There’s a genuine commitment to nurturing the whole child here and witnessing the growth and happiness of my students is incredibly rewarding. It enables the children to value their own and others’ cultures. Also, Global Citizenship creates debate and the platform to form and justify opinions on global issues (climate change for example). Children recognise they have a voice and a real opportunity to make a difference.

The strong sense of community, where collaboration and support create an enriching environment for both students and staff alike.

MUSIC: Mrs Reynolds

1) Why do you love Music so much and think it’s such an important subject to learn?

I adore music; it has been my passion since childhood when I began playing the violin at the age of 4. To me, it’s not just a subject but a source of joy and embraces self-expression. Music is inclusive, inviting everyone to either perform or listen, and it has the power to bring people together. Without it, the world would be a much sadder place.

It cultivates collaborative skills and nurtures pastoral development and well-being. It opens doors to fantastic extra-curricular opportunities.

The best part of being a Cricklade Manor Prep teacher is being part of a school which is so supportive and inclusive to both staff and students. The dynamic and creative curriculum adds excitement to each day, and the unity among staff and students makes us a fantastic team!

Cricklade Manor Prep stands out as an inspiring and uplifting school that motivates everyone within its walls. We are a united team, always pushing boundaries and working together to achieve greatness. Our diverse curriculum embraces creativity, setting us apart positively and dynamically.

HISTORY: Mrs Fairbanks

1) Why do you love History?

I realised some time ago that the reason I would have an extra spring in my step and a burst of enthusiasm was because I was about to teach History; I am passionate about the subject and am constantly reminded how keen the children are to learn about the past.

Learning about the History of the UK and the wider world is key to children’s understanding of what has shaped us. It leads to them questioning the past and valuing the legacies left by those who came before us.

Children can analyse decision-making, form and justify opinions and learn from actions both positive and negative that have affected men, women and children in the past. Importantly, they can also undertake visits to historical sites and handle artefacts to develop their learning.

I enjoy the cross-curricular support and collaboration from my colleagues and the enthusiasm shown in the teaching of History across the age groups.

Cricklade Manor Prep recognises the importance of EDI (Equality, Diversity & Inclusion) and FBV (Fundamental British Values) in its teaching. These issues are highly valued and are acknowledged and celebrated in whole school events.

STEAM: Mrs Richards

1) Why do you love STEAM?

The reason I enjoy STEAM as a subject is because it allows the children to explore real-world problems and develop creative solutions.

The children understand the link between Science and Maths as they engage in an engineering project, finding excitement from the opportunity to apply knowledge acquired in a different lesson.

The benefit of studying STEAM at Cricklade Manor Prep is that it provides time within the curriculum for project-based learning linked to the children’s current topic.

Having joined Cricklade Manor Prep last year, I find the most enjoyable thing about the school is how both the children and staff have the flexibility within the curriculum to be creative.

Within the school, there is a real excitement towards learning and a desire to attempt a challenge.

PSHE: Miss Dismorr

1) Why do you love PSHE?

I love PSHE because it is the cornerstone of every aspect of life at Cricklade Manor Prep and the wider world.

PSHE is such an important subject for children to learn as it plays a crucial role in the holistic development of students, equipping each child with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to navigate various aspects of their lives, no matter what age they are.

PSHE helps students develop a strong sense of self-awareness and emotional intelligence. Through PSHE, which is embedded throughout all subjects in the curriculum, students learn to understand and manage their emotions, build resilience and develop positive self-esteem. This foundation of emotional well-being is vital for students’ mental health and enables them to form healthy relationships with others. In this ever-changing world, PSHE plays a crucial role in addressing the importance of internet safety, financial literacy and citizenship, preparing each student for the challenges and responsibilities of the modern world. Children learn about the potential risks and benefits of technology, develop critical thinking skills, and understand their rights and responsibilities as active citizens.

I could write forever about all of the aspects I love about being a teacher here at Cricklade Manor Prep however, one of the key features is the incredible staff body; everyone is so passionate about their teaching and strives to deliver the best possible learning experience for every student so that when they do leave here, they are confident, engaged and passionate life-long learners. Another aspect I love is the school food- it is exceptional, and I am a massive foodie. From the utterly delicious flapjacks at break time to the wonderful array of food on offer at lunchtime, I feel very lucky to share this experience with the children and I hope they realise how fortunate they are! Finally, I can’t forget the school animals, the numerous dogs and chickens on site really brighten up my day and make the school feel very homely.

From the moment you walk through the Manor House door and experience how the children behave and interact with each other, you can see the self-belief, independence and belonging each child feels at Cricklade Manor Prep. The range of experiences offered to all the students is brilliant, from venturing out to the Forest School area to making and delivering mince pies to the local community, the children are given a fantastic experience of school life where they are respected as individuals and are most importantly made to feel listened to and respected by all.

ENGLISH: Miss Williams

1) Why do you love English?

I love the subject because it allows us to ignite a passion for language, literature, and critical thinking in the children (and staff!) Through the power of words, we can inspire creativity, empathy, and self-expression, shaping young minds and fostering a love for learning. English opens doors to new worlds, perspectives, and ideas.

English is a fun subject to learn in school because it offers a diverse range of activities that engage students in creativity, critical thinking, and a chance to explore different perspectives.  Through

writing, discussions and games we can immerse ourselves in a totally different world, without having to leave the classroom!

I think from studying English children realise that there is more to it than just reading and writing. It is about our imagination, storytelling and how we perform the spoken word. English links to all subjects across our curriculum and is interwoven in all that we do.

I love the creativity within our curriculum here at Cricklade Manor Prep, we take initiative from the children and no two lessons are ever the same! The staff at Cricklade Manor Prep always go above and beyond for the children and want each moment to be a learning experience whilst also being memorable and something they will take with them into their future. We inspire life-long learners.

We are very lucky at Cricklade Manor Prep that we can go on awe-inspiring trips, have visitors come into school and use our fantastic facilities across all lessons. With our newly refurbished Studio, alongside the addition of the Surface Go’s, the children have enjoyed bringing technology into the classroom throughout a variety of lessons. In terms of English, I love our stage and hall and feel we are extremely lucky to have the lighting, sound and equipment to put on our spectacular yearly productions!

FRENCH: Mrs Simpson

1) Why do you love French?

I love French because of the cross-curricular benefits it brings. I enjoy teaching about not just the language itself, but all about the cultures of the French-speaking world, including their art, music, history and geography.

French broadens a child’s horizons, it encourages cultural sensitivity, fosters empathy and expands perspectives through exposure to different ways of thinking and living.

Learning French facilitates travel to French-speaking regions, allowing for deeper cultural immersion and more meaningful interactions with locals. I do think that learning any foreign language is a valuable skill to have in an increasingly interconnected world.

I have enjoyed making meaningful connections with the pupils and my colleagues. Building trust, fostering camaraderie and supporting one another have created a fulfilling environment for both teaching and learning.

Cricklade Manor Prep offers a wide range of extracurricular activities, clubs, sports teams, and enrichment programs that allow pupils to explore their interests and talents beyond the classroom. The school prioritizes character education and social-emotional learning, helping pupils develop essential life skills such as empathy, resilience, leadership and teamwork.

ART: Mrs Brookes

1) Why do you love Art?

I absolutely adore watching the children I teach being expressive with their creativity and bringing their unique visions to life on canvas, paper, sculpture, ceramics or any other medium they choose! Children relish exploring new techniques and styles and I love encouraging them to think outside the box, experimenting with different artistic approaches. Children are passionate when Art has cross-curricular links and I love working with other departments. We have fun sharing fascinating stories and facts about famous artists and children are always fantastic at giving their own pupil voice and opinions. They always have unique viewpoints to share, something as an artist myself, I am always open to ideas and new skills, there is always something new to learn or investigate.

Art is an essential subject to learn because it fosters creativity, self-expression, and critical thinking skills. By engaging with Art, all children can explore their emotions, thoughts, and ideas visually and tangibly. It also helps them develop resilience, and problem-solving abilities, as they experiment with different techniques and materials to bring their artistic visions to life. Additionally, studying Art history exposes children to diverse cultures and perspectives, broadening their understanding of the world around them. I love planning and taking big groups of children aboard on cultural tours, this is when life skills, experiences and memories are made, all of which encompass Art in different cultures. I have had the pleasure of taking groups to Amsterdam, Barcelona, Venice and New York. I have many other countries and cultures I wish to visit… if you have any suggestions please do come and let me know! Overall, I believe Art education plays a crucial role in nurturing well-rounded individuals who can think creatively and appreciate the beauty in the world.

In addition to the mentioned benefits, studying Art can also improve fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and spatial awareness. It encourages experimentation, risk-taking, and resilience in the face of challenges. Art education can boost confidence, self-esteem, and achievement in our children. Overall, studying Art enriches a child’s educational experience and contributes to the holistic development of our children.

I enjoy the opportunity to inspire and educate a wonderful cultural mix of children, their individuality and heritage are always a source of inspiration and they can often be part of the driving force behind how an Art project may develop. I have the pleasure of witnessing and being part of children’s creative growth and development for many early years of their young lives. I appreciate the supportive environment that my subject has at Cricklade Manor Prep and I enjoy collaborating with colleagues. School productions are always a highlight and the chance to make a positive impact on young minds. The kind, caring atmosphere of the whole community at Cricklade Manor Prep, including the children, is a strong force, which is highly motivational for a teacher.

I believe Cricklade Manor Prep is set apart from other schools through a combination of factors. These include a dedicated and passionate team of staff who prioritise our children’s happiness and nurture their strengths. We have a leadership team that fosters a positive school culture and a commitment to a broad and well-rounded academic curriculum of which Art has a high profile. At Cricklade Manor Prep we offer a superb extra-curricular activities program, my own children have loved this aspect of being at Cricklade Manor Prep. Our links with community projects, currently the local Cricklade Festival is a major focus for the Art department which involves all children from Nursery through to Year 6. We are great at building each child’s character development to ensure when they leave Cricklade Manor Prep they are confident, happy and self-assured individuals. The school’s strong and proactive commitment to individualised attention, child support, and a safe and inclusive environment also contributes to its strengths.
