In case you don’t know I have been appointed as the head of school council by Mr Barrett. I am going to talk to you this morning about the role and make-up of the school council and the roles and responsibilities of the council. So the role of the school council is to think of ideas that will improve our school.
So, what are the responsibilities of the school council?
The School council is very important as your ideas to improve the school that you will raise in meetings will be developed by the council and then I will pass them on to Mr Barrett for further thought, and he will decide if they will be put into place.
If you do get in – first of all, congratulations! – it is a really good idea to ask people in your forms every now and then what their thoughts are on the school and how it could be improved and then you can transfer their ideas to the rest of the school council in meetings!
So, what do you do when you get in?
We hold meetings within the school that you will be told about in advance. Some things we cover in school council are, food and school improvements, such as water fountains – I know that one is always raised – behaviour in school and playground equipment are also good examples. Bear in mind this not limited to those categories, but they are just a few ideas.
Hopefully by now everyone understands the role and function of the council, and how important it is to the running of the school.
I know that Mr Barrett is really keen to hear all of your brilliant ideas and to improve the school in every way possible and I look forward to representing the views of the council to him on your behalf.
Go on, Challenge yourself to be a good school councillor, Motivate your friends to give you ideas and help the school and Prepare to be even better – I look forward to seeing you there!
