Year 1 visit The Botanical Gardens

Year 1 had a fantastic trip to the Botanical gardens! The children were amazed that this small garden in the middle of Oxford has over 5000 plants and trees growing there! The children took part in an exciting workshop all about food and where our food comes from, many were surprised that we eat some many plants every day! We then explored the glass houses and found some incredible plants that we enjoy eating every day such as rice, bananas and sugar cane. We also found out that many acres of rainforests are being cut down everyday so farmers can grow palm oil. We were all quite shocked to discover palm oil is in so many of our favourite foods like Nutella.

In the afternoon we got to explore the gardens and have a proper look at the amazing pants and trees there! An exciting and informative day all round!
