This event provides all the Prep School children with the opportunity to learn and present a poem in front of an audience.
Firstly, there is a class competition, from which the finalists are selected. Teachers all remark on how difficult it is to choose. Not only are most children able to remember their poem, but they also use expression, gesture and vary the pace of their delivery.
The 13 Lower Prep finalists set a very high standard, and the audience of invited parents, were treated to an enjoyable lunch time’s entertainment.
Tuesday, saw the Upper Prep children take centre stage and once again, the watching parents and friends were treated to an impressive session of verse speaking. The judges, Mr McLaughlan, Mrs Heywood and Mrs Fairbanks, were faced with difficult decisions on both occasions. However, they all managed to agree on two things: the eventual prize winners and the overall excellence of the participants.
